One is not superior merely because one sees the world as odious. -- Chateaubriand (1768-1848)

They came for the gun owners, and I didn’t say anything because I didn’t own a gun.

I do not live in a free country.

I remember, in the wake of Dunblane, there was a vocal minority that said they would come for knives after they banned guns. They were laughed at. At that point several types of knives were already banned or severely restricted but that didn’t matter. It was “paranoia”. Now back then I was a kid, and all I knew was that guns were bad, I definitely didn’t know the history. Now I do know.

This knife thing is playing out in exactly the same way. Right after the war ended there was an amnesty on guns by the incoming labour government. Thousands of guns that had been donated by the Americans were handed in and subsequently destroyed because they “weren’t needed” or some such rubbish. A couple of years later an act was put in place requiring the registration of dangerous guns – shotguns, rifles and the like – but exempting pistols. This was the dangerous weapons act, which had enabling measures built in so that the home office could extend its definitions at any time with a statutory instrument. After that the end result of just about anything being considered an offensive weapon was pretty much inevitable.

Now we’re facing legislation of certain classes of blades. Ornamental blades, sure… but remember just last year some “doctors” were calling for any sort of sharp-ended knife to be banned. If, when, this act comes in to law I can guarantee it will have an enabling clause that will allow the home office to alter the definition of what blades fall under its purview, and those scientists may well get their wish. And if parliament refuses to ratify the act? Well, it can just be kicked up to the EU level and turned into something they can’t refuse.

One Response to “They came for the gun owners, and I didn’t say anything because I didn’t own a gun.”

So Granny gets arrested for having a carving knife over six inches long,The insanity of these moron knows know bounds, it is not the knife it is the arsehole using it. It was not just after the second world war that owning weapons were restricted it was also after the First World War when the threat of revolution in England was very high especially when the post war boom started to peter out in the early twenties and the returned soldiers were being thrown out of there jobs. A land fit for heroes had a rather hollow ring. If you get the chance read a book called I think ( The monocled mutineer ). It is basically a biography but it catches the mood of the times very well.It starts with the Etaple mutiny. I think it was in 1917 I don’t remember the dates. The British Government only felt safe after they had defeated the General Strike of 1926. The stone that was thrown into the pond in 1914 didn’t stop rippling until after 1926. If you are interested just Google the ETAPLES mutiny and follow a few links,I think you will be surprised how many mutinies there were in the British Army and most seemed to come after the war. The trouble is that we have stopped teaching history in our schools. The trouble is that we are now teaching a milksop revisionist PC form of historical crap that suits the utopian agenda of those in power. The trouble is that those who have a vision normally suffer from delusions of grandeur. I am an old Yorkshire Miner, a branch president,I never wanted to change the world. No elysian field for me, no Marxian dissolution of the state and we all live happily ever after. All I wanted was better compensation for lung disease. Practicality over fantasy , was always my motto. the problem is the E.U. has descended into a fantasy world . The history they use to justify there Utopia never even existed. The imperative of not having to suffer the horror of another European war has dominated their thinking, and I have to agree with them, who wants the horror of another European war with 50 million dead. The point is that trying to resurrect another Holy Roman Empire, which is what they are trying to do, will only result in once again the Fragmentation of Europe. Read your History, the political movement of Europe after the Napoleonic war was for consolidation, into political blocks until the Great War when it fragmented once again. Since then we have once again seen the consolidation process continuing. Is there a process of consolidation and deconstruction with a 100 year cycle. The only thing I am certain of as a free born Englishman is that my natural rights which are being eroded, will not be returned until the artificial edifice of the E,U, is destroyed. I live in a world where I don’t want to be like Star Trek where we have the Borg, we are part of a greater entity, you know the lady with the great tits. I think they called her 7 of 9. I am not going to be 7 of 25, or whatever no.of countries the idiots in Brussels decide we should be. The point I am trying to make is that the this farce over knives is one last attempt by Brussels to impose its will before it is relegated to the footnotes of history in the same way as Vienna was after the first world war and the dissolution of the so called Holy Rome Empire. Disraeli said that it was neither Holy, Roman or Empire. Wanting to bring Turkey into the fold will certain not make it European and the steadily building forces of nationalism in certain countries and parties will certainly not make it a union. Great post by the way I certainly hope that you sort out your family problems

    Deep Regards
