Indignation!

I spoke too soon! Charles has another post up, imaginatively titled Answering the Vlaams Belang Apologists, where he again claims that VB, others et al are extremists based on the words of, an, um… marxist. Yes. Because they’re so trustworthy in identifying “right wing extremism”.
It is obvious that VB has had a shady past. Every party in Europe has a shady past. Many parties in the UK have a shady past – the labour party is largely made up of ex communists, and we all know what they supported in the 50s… and 60s.. and 70s… hell, even in the 90s. Even today. Many of them still sing the prises of Lenin, Stalin, Pol Pot and the Chinese who are, apparently, the new favourites and who most recently imprisoned thousands for being part of a meditative religion called Falun Gong, yet they still get a free pass. They wear symbols of despotism, openly, they identify with tyrants and murderers and they adulate genocidal maniacs.
When a party that is trying to shed its shady past happens to be on the right it can never get any sort of pass. Can’t have those nasty right-wingers running things, they might actually let people get on with their lives without sate interference, cut taxes, reduce immigration and give people a bit of national pride again.
National pride has no place here!

LGF bowls on, running its regular monday night link feature – or at elast a regular feature of various names that happens to have links in it. First item on the list was a link to a news story that the new miss belgium can’t speak flemish. I expected a certain amount of daft commentary over there.
I was not disappointed. Not a huge showing, just a couple of comments in almost 1500, but they prove the rants I’ve made here in the recent past: they are ignorant.
LGF people: first, Flemish Dutch is the language, not “vlaams”. “Vlaams” means “Flemish”, they speak Dutch, like they speak in the netherlands, seeing as the Flemish north used to be part of that country. Second, Flemish Dutch is the language spoken by the majority in Belgium, despite over a century of attempted suppression of the language by the Waloon minority.
Basically this would be the equivalent of Miss America only being able to speak Spanish. Doesn’t sound so funny, now, does it?
