“My son,” said the Norman Baron, “I am dying, and you will be heir

But before you go over to rule it I want you to understand this:–

A little melancholy going on at the moment. This year marks the 20th year since the suicide of my cousin Tracy, who was one of the closest people to me in my youth after my parents.
I was nine when it happened. I’d known Tracy as a loving young woman who was always ready to play [...]

I’m not much of a fan of Cromwell for various reasons (he banned christmas!) but the man sure knew how to make a speech, as Helen szamuely reminds us. (also at EU Referendum).
“…It is high time for me to put an end to your sitting in this place, which you have dishonoured by your contempt [...]

I feel strangely proud. I have a Union flag flapping right outside my window and it’s immensely pleasing, even if it is currently hanging from the scaffolding around our building. There’s a Swedish one next to i for the wife, sort of like residency flags on the royal palace, only rather less rich. It’s nice [...]

Just an fyi, the flats are coming along quite nicely, though there’s been a couple of difficulties – for example, some scamp climbed the scaffolding and ran al over the roof, breaking about a dozen tiles. They were apparently after the lead but fortunately it’s well nailed down, not worth the hassle for them

Anyway, the [...]

In Sweden, it seems to be the reverse. Alcohol can only [...]

Well that break lasted longer than I expected but that’s not a problem. You were saved from the drivel, and I got to spend some time generally not being an arse toward people.
So, now I’m back, and it’s to tell you that I’m off again! To Sweden, as a matter of fact, where I’ll be [...]

I’ve started shouting at friendlies again, which is usually a good sign that I’m spending too much time on the internet. So, I’m off for a bit. In a stroke of good timing I already have a weekend away booked with the wife, so that’ll be three days taken care of…
Bye for now.

Fun eh? I had a wander around inside it after the builders had gone home. It’s huge. Far bigger than the flats next door seem to be.

Yes, a completely different topic too! I’ve just spent a couple of minutes staring out of the back window at the property we’re developing. So far the store-rooms that support the place have been built, and the steels – the main steel beams across the under-pass driveway thing – went in yesterday. Today I think [...]
