The links that weave and so on. For whatever reason I was looking through Kirsty MacColl songs when I found her cover of “Perfect Day”, which got me thinking about the Children in Need version of that song that was run in 97. At the time I didn’t realise it but it was run as [...]

Here’s one for the books. My brother’s wife is being threatened with deportation. They married some time last year, in Paraguay, and then came here. They’ve since had a baby which I may or may not have mentioned - need to put up some pictures of him. He’s cute.
Recently they found out that their marriage [...]

Is this fair? Knowing how Islam has treated the national monuments of previous nations it conquered, perhaps it is…
Likely? We’ll see.

I found this today in one of those random fortune cookie scripts. Those things are full of cool little tidbits and silliness, but now and then pure random chance throws up something worth pondering…
He who has the courage to laugh is almost as much a master of the world as he who is ready to [...]

Had the following conversation on a forum (about Transport Tycoon and related games, oddly enough) yesterday. I think my little retort was somewhat humourous…

Am I getting the impression some people are defending Saddam here? That’s more than a bit weird. “Oh, leave him alone! He’s alright really!”
I don’t support either Bush or Saddam. [...]

One of the good things about being a christian (something of a minority faith in this part of the world these days) is that you get access to media sources a lot of people simply don’t know about. Christian news and media is becoming one of the modern succes stories yet it goes virtually unnoticed. [...]

Wherever you look, today, you will see something that is “post modern”, (or PoMo as certain people like to call it). People express a willingness to proclaim everything as post-modern, without really understanding what they’re saying and what post-modernism actually is. In essence, post-modernism is a rejection of everything prior to itself. Where the past [...]

I’m off to paraguay tomorrow, hopefully managing to pass through the numerous security checks that have sprung up in light of the recent terror alert without loosing my shoes in the process but, before I go, I want to make a quick post.
As is usual with my posts there’s little evidenciary linking and lots of [...]

This gates of Vienna post and this EU Referendum post both cover the recent YouGov poll (conducted by Daily Telegraph and also editorialised there), revealing how people with broadly similar ideas can make the same exact point and uyet sound completely different. Gates started by expanding upon the life of one George M Cohen, the [...]

Distillation is a favourite topic of mine. It’s the method whereby the drink of the gods (aka dalwhinnie 18 year single malt whisky) is produced, or at least part of it. Or something. But that has nothing to do with this particular post, except obliquely by the amount of the stuff I’ve drunk over the last few days trying to figure out how best to phrase this. And that’s not good, because it’s hard to enjoy a fine single malt when you’re stressed over projects and unable to let go of a thought…
Recently, on several posts over at Gates of Vienna I’ve been having an on-again/off-again argument with one or two commenters on the subject of whether America should involve itself in our troubles. On the surface, I have to admit, I can sympathise with their position, and in most circumstances I’d agree that the US would be entirely justified in sitting this one out. We (I hate to do it, but for the purposes of this post I’m referring to the continent and the Isles as a single collective entity) have a problem.
